"Principles and Practices of Islamic Finance" of Paris-Dauphine Université organize a conference :
Developments and Challenges in Islamic Finance Today
Interest in Islamic Finance, an investment field representing a total potential of 400-500 billion Euros worldwide according to Paris Europlace estimates, continues to grow.
Ernst and Young estimated that it represented $58 billion in 2010 having doubled in size from $29 billion in 2004.
As you may be aware, the term Islamic Finance refers to all transactions and financial products that comply with islamic Commercial Law principles: the prohibition of interest, uncertainty and speculation. In addition, investment in certain sectors -- alcohol, tobacco, betting are also prohibited-- and the principle of profits and losses sharing.
The financial crisis sparked a search for viable, more stable and ethical alternatives. This also generated a wider interest in Islamic Finance: influential financial institutions and universities, including our hosts Universite Paris Dauphine, are becoming increasingly active in developing this field.
In France, participating financial institutions have successfully addressed various challenges, such as reforming the regulatory environment and approving new product initiatives, though there is still much to do.
Join a fascinating discussion on these and other aspects of Islamic Finance, followed by Q&A and networking with members and friends of 100WHF.
